KOHAT: The police claimed on Tuesday to have killed an extortionist during an encounter in Jarma area here. The outlaw was wanted in murder, attempted murder cases and other crimes.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team surrounded the hideout of the outlaw, Shah Zeb, in Shaheedao Banda area, but he opened fire. The police retaliated, killing him in the cross-fire.

The police shifted the body to the KDA Teaching Hospital for autopsy. The body was later handed over to relatives.

The police also recovered a Kalashnikov, a pistol and hundreds of cartridges from his hideout.

ORPHAN CHILDREN: A group of 78 orphan children from war-battered formerly tribal areas enjoyed an excursion in the Masood Park here on Tuesday, which brought cheers to their faces.

The trip was organised by Aghosh, a charity, which in collaboration with Al-Khidmat Foundation, is focused on poverty alleviation.

The orphan children belonged to North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai, and Bannu districts. They were adopted by Aghosh after they lost their family members.

The charity provided education to these children up to sixth grade, and then sent them to schools and colleges for further education.

The programme organiser, Hayat Khan said the children enjoyed swings, trains, revolving buckets, slides, see-saw, merry-go-round and other activities. They were also fed lunch.

He said it was their cherished wish to organise such programmes frequently.

He appealed to the philanthropists to donate generously so that the charity’s orphanage could meet the expenditures incurred on payment of salaries to the staff and teachers, rent of the building, meal and utility bills.
