KOHAT: Three coal miners were killed when two blasts occurred inside the mines caused by filling of gas in Akhorwal area of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision of Kohat on Tuesday night, an official said on Wednesday.

He said the deceased belonged to Lower and Upper Dir districts.

He said in the first explosion, Ilyas and Zahir Zada were killed, and the second blast left one Khan Muhammad dead. The bodies had been dispatched to their native areas.

Meanwhile, members of the Wapda hydro electric union’s local chapter staged a rally on Wednesday against the proposed privatisation of the authority.

Led by union’s provincial chairman Younis Shah and divisional chairman Daud Shah, the protesters demanded regularisation of all the contract employees and appointing sons of retired employees in scale 5 without tests.

They said Wapda was a profit-earning organisation, and its privatisation at the ‘behest of IMF’ won’t be acceptable to them. They also called for filling the vacant in posts in Pesco.
