MANSEHRA: A woman was killed in the name of family honour and a minor boy lost life after falling into a water tankhere on Thursday.

The police said Zulfiqar Shah, who belonged to Kaghan valley and was settled in Ghazikot area, fired gunshots at Noreen Bibi injuring her seriously, and fled.

The injured was shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital but the doctors referred her to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, where she succumbed to injuries.

The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after a postmortem at the Kath.

The police said the gunman’s son and the slain woman’s daughter had got married on their own free will after fleeing homes.

They said they had registered an FIR and started raids to arrest the suspected killer.

Also in the day, Shahzen, 1, the son of trader Mohammad Wahad, fell into a water tank in his house in Darband area while playing.

He was taken out and shifted to the Darband civil hospital unconscious but was declared dead by the doctors.

Meanwhile, employees of the revenue department observed a pen-down strike here on Thursday against the murder of a colleague in Charsadda.

District president of the Anjuman-i-Patwarin Bashir Khan said the strike would be extended indefinitely if the killer(s) weren’t arrested.

SESSION HELD: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) on Thursday held a consultation with stakeholders on how to “end the gender digital divide and economically empower the women.”

The UNFPA, UNDP, UN Women and Jazz collaborated with the NCSW for the event, which was attended by politicians, journalists, civil society members, and researchers.

“This session with prominent personalities from different segments of society is meant to have their opinion before the finalisation of a comprehensive report of women’s economic empowerment in the era of digitalisation,” NCSW chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar told participants.

She said a report would be shared with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
