SWABI: A student was killed in festive firing at a wedding function here on Sunday, the police said.
Officials said Salman Khan, an 11th grade student, was seriously injured in celebratory firing, and was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. The incident occurred in Bamkhel village.
Meanwhile, a cook of the district police lines was looted at gunpoint when he was going home on Saturday night, the police said.
Officials said Abid Khan, who lives near Shahmansoor Township, was heading home after duty on a motorcycle, when unidentified robbers intercepted him, took him to a nearby field, and snatched Rs2,000 cash, a mobile phone, a gold ring and motorcycle from him at gunpoint.
Separately, a man killed his brother in Bachai area of Razaar tehsil over some trivial issue on Sunday, the police said.
Widow of the deceased told the Kalu Khan police her brother-in-law, namely Mansoor Ali, allegedly shot dead her husband, Safdar Ali, on the orders of his father, Yusuf Ali, over a family dispute.
The police registered an FIR and started investigations.
DISPUTE RESOLVED: The dispute resolution council on Sunday helped resolve an old enmity between two parties in Gulu Dheri Musa Khan village of Swabi tehsil.
The groups led by Irfan Khan and Rawid Khan forgave each other and pledged to live in harmony, taking oath on the Holy Quran.
The DRC members led by their chairman Afsar Khan with the help of a local jirga held several meetings with both the parties and made them agree to forgive each other.
CONTROL ROOM: Mardan regional police officer Mohammad Ali Khan Gandapur on Sunday inaugurated command and control room in Swabi.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, he said steps had been taken to effectively combat terrorism. He directed policemen to remain vigilant to foil the designs of elements wanting to create chaos in the country.
The district police officer informed the regional police chief that 78 CCTV cameras had been installed at the entry and exit points of the district linked with the command and control room to combat street crime, terrorism and vehicle theft.
Later, the RPO also visited the police training school.
