LAHORE: A young online taxi driver was shot dead allegedly by a customer in Faisal Town area.

The police recovered his body from Manawan area and the car from Township.

The police claim to have arrested the suspected killer who was identified as Waqar Ali, a resident of Faisal Town.

According to initial police inquiries, the suspect had murdered taxi driver Fahar Ali, 25, for the reason that he had picked him up from his location “too late”.

The official said Waqar had booked the ride a few days back and as Fahar reached the given spot, the customer exchanged hot words with him for getting too late. During argument, the suspect opened fire, killing the driver on the spot.

The suspect later drove the car to Manawan area where he dumped the body of the taxi driver in the fields, the police official said, adding a passerby spotted the body and alerted the police.

Earlier, he said, the Faisal Town police had lodged a kidnap case when the family found Fahar’s mobile phone switched off.

During inquiry, the police obtained call record data, got some details from the online company and traced the culprit.

Further investigations are underway.
