KOHAT: Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (Pedo) has started installing upgraded solar systems at 215 mosques across the Kohat district.

The project will be completed before Ramazan.

An official told Dawn on Wednesday that the upgraded solar systems would ensure uninterrupted power supply to the mosques. He said Pedo had already completed solarisation of mosques in Karak and Hangu districts.

The official said each solar system’s capacity had been enhanced to 445 watts from 295 watts installed in 2021-22. He added the six-panel cluster was now being replaced with four bigger plates to increase the storage capacity of batteries.

He said the replaced solar panels would not go waste and would be used for powering 40-horsepower water pumps. Caretaker of a mosque and seminary, Nazeer Ahmed, said mosques had been getting uninterrupted power supply since the solar systems installed in 2021-22.

POLICE DARBAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat has said new Counter-Terrorism Department centres have been established in the province to further strengthen the combat capacity of the police.

Addressing a police darbar at the police martyrs’ memorial hall here on Wednesday, he asserted that the writ of the law would be enforced at all costs. He said SP rank officers had been deputed in the CTD centres to effectively deal with terror activities, according to a statement.

He warned the police officials having links with drug dealers and criminals would be expelled from the force.
