KARACHI: A day after a girl student was shot at and wounded by a male student in a classroom, an inquiry committee of the Directorate of Inspection / Registration of Private Institutions Sindh has suspended the registration of the Delhi School and College in Orangi Town on Thursday.

One day prior, a student of the school, identified as Fazalullah had brought a pistol with him to the school. He then shot a female student in the leg and fled. The girl suffered a serious injury and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Thereafter, an inquiry committee comprising officials of the directorate visited the school and in the light of its findings it was established that the incident of bringing a pistol into the school by a student and his firing at another student there happened due to gross negligence of the school administration.

Aside from suspending the registration of the school, a disciplinary fine, amounting to Rs75,000, has also been imposed on the school. The school shall also bear all expenditure to be incurred on the treatment of the injured student.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s family reportedly told police that they did not know their son had carried a pistol in his school bag.
