BAHAWALPUR: The last day of the third edition of Bahawalpur Literature and Cultural Festival (BLCF-23) at the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) featured a number of interesting and informative events.

It included the launch of ‘Sarsabz,’ a children’s book written by Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahar besides a Mushaira participated by poets from across the country.

The concluding day attracted a large number of students, visitors and officials.

Sarsabz was compiled by Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahar in his capacity as South Punjab secretary for school education and it focused on the children’s awareness about climate change.

In the media conclave, veteran journalist Mujahid Barelvi, Amna Mufti, Kathak dancer Sheema Kirmani and others participated.

Kirmani held a workshop on performing arts at the IUB’s College of Art and Design.

In the second media conclave on Bol Keh Lub Azad Hain Tere, Oriya Maqbool Jan, Gul-e-Naukhez Akhtar, Shakir Hussain Shakir and Khalilur Rehman Qamar were prominent.

ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist was run over while his pillion suffered serious injuries as they were crushed under the wheels of a trailer near Waseb Mela Hotel in Ahmedpur East.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Shehnshah (18) while his pillion rider was Muhammad Shaukat (40).

According to Abid Raheem of Rescue 1122, two motorcyclists were involved in a race when one of them, Shehnshah, hit a passerby and fell from his motorcycle on the road and a trailer coming behind him crushed him and his pillion under its wheels.

Shehnshah died on the spot while Shaukat was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in serious condition.
