KARACHI: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a case pertaining to a Rs59 million robbery and arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in the incident.
On Feb 28, armed robbers had snatched over Rs59m from builder Raheel Ghaffar when he was on way home in DHA from his Bahadurabad office in a chauffeur-driven car. The victim had told the police that he had placed four cartons having total cash of Rs59,400,000 in the boot of his car and left for home. However, armed robbers intercepted his car, held him and his driver at gunpoint, asked them to step out of the vehicle and took away the car along with the cash.
SSP-East Zubair Nazeer Shaikh told Dawn that the police conducted raids in Karachi and Hyderabad, picked up three suspects and recovered Rs30m from them.
He said that the builder’s driver was also among the held suspects as he was the one who tipped other suspects about movement of such a huge amount without any security.
The builder got the money from some people who booked apartments in his project and the driver knew he was taking the amount to his home in his car as per his routine practice.
A case was registered against unknown persons at the Bahadurabad police station under Sections 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
