KARACHI: Enraged people lynched a suspected thief in Orangi Town, police and rescuers said on Thursday.

Area police said suspect Muhammad Ayub barged into a house in Sector 12 apparently to commit a robbery. The owner, however, challenged him and with the help of area people got hold of him.

The people gave him a severe beating before police took him to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where he died during treatment on Thursday.

Man shot at Liaquatabad underpass

A 45-year-old man, travelling in a SUV, was shot at and wounded by unknown assailants travelling in a four-wheeler at the Liaquatabad underpass on Thursday.

Super Market SHO Zahid Soomro identified the wounded as Nabeel Ahmed, who worked in a medicine company. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where he was discharged after first aid.

The victim told the police that he did not want any legal proceedings.

The area SHO, however, ruled out the possibility of a robbery bid.
