KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were shot dead in two separate ‘encounters’ in the city on Thursday.

In the first incident, two suspects were gunned down within the remit of the SITE-A police station,.

Keamari-SSP Fida Hussain Janwari said that a police party was conducting checking of commuters on ‘Qabar Wali Gali’ near Star Mill at 1.45am. They indicated four suspects on two motorbikes to stop. However, the suspects opened fire on the police.

In an exchange of gunfire, two suspects were arrested in a wounded condition and later died, he said, adding that two TT pistols, bullets, three mobile phones and one motorcycle were recovered from them.

The identity of the two deceased could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Earlier, in the same area, Head Constable Muhammad Rameez was killed and another policeman Sher Afzal wounded by four muggers riding two motorcycles during police checking.

However, the SSP claimed that the two incidents were not connected. He said the attackers were not ‘terrorists’, but local criminals prowling around the area.

In the second encounter in Landhi-4, one suspect was gunned down and three others were arrested with bullet wounds.

Four suspects were allegedly looting a factory worker when police reached there, upon which an exchange of gunfire took place during which alleged dacoit Sadiq, 32, was shot dead while the suspects were arrested with bullet wounds.
