ISLAMABAD: The capital police on Thursday night claimed on their Twitter account that missing Baloch rights activist Abid Mir had returned home.

The police also claimed that a false impression of disappearance of the rights activist had been created due to the loss of contact with the family.

However, the claim of the police was largely criticised on social media by people who asked the police to stop lying.

Talking to Dawn, Khalid Mir, brother of Abid Mir, denied that he had reached home. However, he said he received a call from an unknown number at around 10am and the caller was his brother.

Abid Mir told him that he was in the northern areas.

Abid Mir’s mobile phone is still switched off, he said, adding he was at Ramna police station to get the case of his disappearance registered, but his efforts had been in vain.

Public relations officer (PRO) for the police, Taqi Jawad, was not available for comments.
