LAHORE: Pakistan chief selector Haroon Rasheed hinted at picking junior players who have lit up the ongoing Pakistan Super League for the three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan later this month.

Haroon is due to announce the squad for the March 24-27 series in Sharjah on Monday. He told Dawn on Sunday that the process to finalise the team was in progress.

“We have discussed different combinations and juniors are also being considered due to their performances in the ongoing PSL,” Haroon, who will announce the first team of his tenure after being appointed as chief selector in the month of July, informed.

The names of pacer Ihsanullah, batters Saim Ayub and Azam Khan alongside the experienced Imad Wasim are in the fray for selection, according to several reports.

There are also reports suggesting that skipper Babar Azam and his deputy Mohammad Rizwan will be rested for the series, which is not part of ICC’s Future Tours Programme, with pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi assuming the leadership role.
