TOBA TEK SINGH: Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) vice chancellor Dr Shahid Kamal died on Monday in an accident on motorway (M-4) near Sahianwala interchange.

University spokesperson Rizwan Joya told Dawn that the late VC was on his way to Faisalabad from Lahore along with his driver Muhammad Adnan by his jeep. When they reached near Sahianwala interchange, a tyre of the vehicle burst and the driver lost control on the steering as a result it collided with an oil tanker. The VC received critical injuries and died instantly. The driver remained unhurt.

A large number of teachers and students attended his funeral prayers in hockey ground of the university. The body was taken to Lahore and he was laid to rest after another funeral at Punjab university ground.

A press release issued by GCUF said Dr. Shahid Kamal also held the post of principal, dean and director in Punjab University. The GCUF will remain closed for three days. Recitation of the Quran will be held on Tuesday (today) at 10am at Jamia Masjid, GCUF New Campus.
