KOHAT: Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Vice-chancellor Dr Ziaul Haq inaugurated the new building of the Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences, Kohat, on Wednesday.
The building has been completed at a cost of Rs10 billion, according to a statement issued here.
The statement said that KMU VC was accompanied by principal of the institute of dental sciences Dr Faheemullah, principal institute of medical sciences Dr Musarrat Jabeen, former vice-chancellor of Kohat Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Mohammad Hafeezullah and others.
Deputy commissioner Azamatullah Wazir was also present on the occasion.
The statement said that the institute would offer five and four years postgraduate courses to 100 medical and 50 dental students, besides offering courses in nursing and paramedical.
It is to be recalled here that KIMS established in 2006 was affiliated with the Kohat University of Science and Technology, and later affiliated with Khyber Medical University as a constituent institute in 2011.
With the new building, KIMS has been renamed as the Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences, Kohat.
FAIR: Deputy commissioner Azmatullah Wazir on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day career fair at the Kohat University of Science and Technology.
Students from women’s vocational institute, Lachi, and other institutions participated in the fair. They presented business ideas and startups.
Stalls of handicraft and local cuisine were also set up on the occasion.
OUTLAWS ARRESTED: The police rounded up five proclaimed offenders, three illegal Afghans, besides 50 suspects during a crackdown the other day.
The arrests were made during operations in all the police circles of Kohat.
Weapons and drugs were also seized, including 16 pistols, a Kalashnikov, six kilogrammes of hashish and 130 grams of ice drug.
In a statement, district police officer Shehzada Umer Abbas Babar directed the police to remain on high alert in the prevailing situation and ensure wearing of bulletproof jackets and helmets.
He also urged people to extend cooperation to the police to help weed out anti-social elements from the society.
