LAHORE: The provincial capital has reported first death of a Covid-19 patient, sending a wake-up call for the health authorities and the people to take preventive measures to avoid a new expected wave of the virus.
According to the reports, an 89-year-old woman namely Wahida died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in Defence Housing Authority here on Wednesday.
The elderly woman was brought with shortness of breath and the on-duty doctor admitted her following some symptoms related to the Covid-19.
The tests were performed accordingly and the reports later confirmed her the Covid-positive patient.
During treatment, she breathed her last, an official of the health department said, declaring it first Covid-related death of 2023.
He said some 25 new patients have been tested positive for the same virus during the last 24 hours in the provincial capital.
Of them, 14 were getting treatment at various public and private hospitals in the isolation wards designated for the Covid.
Meanwhile, he said, the health authorities have generated an alert for all the public and private healthcare establishments to follow strictly the guidelines while attending patients. The official said they have also cautioned the masses to adopt the same preventive measures in the markets, offices, education institutions and other workplaces, especially while using public transport.
