RAWALPINDI: The World Water Day was observed in the garrison city and in this regard, a seminar and a walk were arranged to create awareness of clean drinking water.
Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) arranged the seminar in its offices and walk on Murree Road with a pledge to provide the water to all and create awareness among the people to not waste the water.
Speaking on the occasion, Wasa Managing Director Mohammad Tanveer said that it was the need of hour to augment new water sources to overcome the upcoming shortage of water in Pakistan and especially in Potohar Region.
“The construction work on new dams is necessary as the underground water table is depleting on annually basis,” he said.
He said the government should start planning for major projects of water augmentation to overcome the shortage of water in Rawalpindi city. He said Wasa was striving hard to provide clean drinking water to the citizens and all the efforts were being made in this regard.
He appealed to the consumers that prevailing situation demands conservation of water and consumers could play pivotal role in conserving and minimizing the wastage of water. Wasa also requested general public and specifically its consumers to cooperate in conservation and economical use of water.
He said Wasa was working day and night to ensure the contamination free water to the citizen and in this regard purposeful steps are being taken at our side.
In the end, a water awareness walk was also arranged on Murree Road.
