KARACHI: The North Nazimabad police SHO was suspended and demoted after the Anti-Violent Crime Cell raided the police station and recovered three persons kept on the roof without any charges on Friday.

SSP-Central Maroof Usman said that the police had picked up three persons for selling scorpions and brought them to the North Nazimabad police station. In the meantime, a kidnapping complaint was lodged with the AVCC that raided the police station and recovered the three persons, he added.

The SSP claimed that the three persons were not the victim of “short-term kidnapping for ransom” or illegal detention. However, he said that SHO Moid Ahmed, who fled from the scene, was suspended and demoted over “corrupt practices”.

Apparently, the police demanded a bribe for releasing the three persons and their relatives lodged a kidnapping report, a police source explained.
