KOHAT: Lightning killed a shepherd boy in the mountains of Seni Gumbat here on Sunday, the police said.

SHO Fazal Khan told Dawn that they had received a report about the missing of a 16-year-old, Naimatullah. He said the police launched a hunt for him, and found his body near a pond in the mountains. He said the body was moved to a hospital where doctors conducted postmortem and confirmed he was killed by lightning. The body was handed over to relatives for burial.

GAS OUTAGE: Consumers in the Kohat city have assailed the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines for suspending gas supply before Iftar, and asked the deputy commissioner to order the company to ensure smooth supply during the fasting month.

The residents said they were forced to arrange food from restaurants and bakeries, which put extra financial burden on them. They complained that despite many reminders, the SNGPL had no ‘mercy’ on them. They also complained about low gas pressure.

FREE MEALS: The All Tajir Ittehad and Grand Business Alliance are arranging free Iftar for the poor in the bazaars, while Sons of Kohat, a local welfare body, is holding iftar and sehri for the attendants of patients coming from far-off areas and daily wagers at the KDA Teaching Hospital.

The organisations said the gesture would continue through Ramazan. They urged philanthropists to donate cash for the poor people.

General secretary of the bazaar union, Baz Mohammad Khattak said iftar was arranged for those who could not return to their homes in the evening and for poor daily wagers.

FOOD PACKAGE: A welfare organisation in Junglekhel on Sunday distributed food package to 200 widows and orphans.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of the body said it was duty of the well-off people to take care of the poor. They said food packages would also be delivered at the houses of the poor. They appealed to the rich people to donate in cash and kind for the poor.
