WATER SHORTAGE

Published March 28, 2023

WATER SHORTAGE: Months have passed since we received enough line water to have the underground tank filled. Our only source of getting water is tankers for which we have to dish out a hefty amount every time. We are certainly not alone in our misery. The people of Hyderabad regardless of the area or locality have to take the same route for long. The authorities concerned simply blame the energy crisis and unpaid bills. The government should step in to provide some relief to the people of Hyderabad.

ANTI-CORRUPTION STEPS: While the government is agreeing to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demand, among others, of disclosing assets of senior federal bureaucrats, it should also include provincial government officers, both serving and retired, of grade 17 and beyond. Similarly, it should include all their counterparts in the judiciary and the armed forces as well as among the politicians regardless of their political affiliations. It would be a step towards good governance.

UNPAID SALARIES: The Directorate of Education had directed the relevant District Education Officers (DEOs) to release salaries to the newly-recruited teachers in December 2022, and the directive was executed in certain districts. However, nothing of the sort happened in Buner, and the individuals were told that there were certain administrative lacunae. To live without a salary in these times is a nightmare. The salaries of new teachers in Buner district should also be released forthwith.

POVERTY AND SUICIDE: There has always been poverty in Dera Bugti area, but the extent of it these days is beyond imagination. There have been cases of suicide in the last few months. The government should immediately do something that may give people at least some hope, if nothing else, for the future.
