PESHAWAR: Pakistan caused a major upset by beating a strong Australian team 2-1 in their quarter-final tie of the ITF World Tennis Junior Team Competition Asia/Oceania final qualifying in Kuching, Malaysia to qualify for the World Group event.
The World Group event will be held later this year in the Czech Republic.
According to the information made available here, Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha was declared a 6-4, 3-0 winner against Australia’s Taiki Takizawa who retired while his team-mate Kose Cooper outclassed Hamza Roman of Pakistan 6-2, 6-1 in the boys singles matches.
However, Abubakar paired with Hamza outplayed the Aussie duo of Cooper and Anthony Baker Nikolas 6-1, 6-4 to record a well-deserved victory for Pakistan.
