PESHAWAR: The excise department has arrested a drug smuggler posing as a Pakistan Army major, and recovered 60 kilograms of hashish from his car.

An excise department official said they had received information about a possible drug smuggling attempt. He added that a team signalled a vehicle to stop in Nowshera, but the driver sped away.

“We chased the car and stopped it near Risalpur. The driver identified himself as Iqbal Ali, an officer of the armed forces, but on suspicion, we checked his car and recovered 60 kilograms of hashish from it.

The official said that the accused turned out to be a drug smuggler and not an army officer.

The official said that a case had been registered against him.
