LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has decided to begin interviewing its candidates for party tickets for upcoming general elections in Punjab from Thursday (today).

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by PTI chief Imran Khan and attended by secretary-general Asad Umer, senior vice-president Fawad Chaudhry and others party leaders here on Wednesday.

The meeting decided that the candidates’ interview and selection process would be completed in a week’s time. Sources in the party say the candidates on more than 50 per cent seats are already final, who had fought and won seats in the 2018 elections and delivered.

The meeting lauded the services of upholding of law and constitution as well as condemned all those forces attacking the judiciary and trying to delay the elections.

When contacted, PTI central Punjab president Dr Yasmin Rashid said party chief Imran Khan would himself interview all the candidates and select on merit. She said Mr Khan had earlier expressed his displeasure over the selection of several candidates during the 2018 elections. She said the candidates for party tickets had already filed their nomination papers with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
