MANSEHRA: The Lower Kohistan police on Tuesday increased security arrangements for foreign workers of development projects in the district.

“Security has been beefed up for Chinese nationals working on Dasu and Diamer-Basha hydropower projects. You should provide them with foolproof security at project sites and movement on the Karakoram Highway,” district police officer Mohammad Ishtiaq told senior police officials during the “monthly crime meeting”.

The participants included the deputy superintendents of police, SHOs and investigations heads of police stations from across the district. The DPO said terrorists had increased their activities in the province with police being their main target.

He ordered strict adherence to the National Action Plan against terrorism and warned officials of punitive action over the dereliction of duty.

Mr Ishtiaq also ordered the early arrest of proclaimed offenders for their trial in the courts of law. He said additional police force would be deployed at sensitive places in the district during the upcoming festival of Eidul Azha.

The DPO asked police officials to deal with people politely during “search and strike” operations. He also directed DSPs to ensure that policemen wear bulletproof jackets while patrolling as well as escorting foreigners.

AWARENESS WALK: Schoolchildren on Tuesday organised a walk in Suo area of Lower Kohistan district for enrolment awareness.

“We want to bring more and more children to school but it is possible if parents will understand the importance of education and enrol their children in schools for formal education,” deputy district education officer Shah Nazar told participants of the event. Holding banners and placards inscribed with pro-education slogans, the students marched on the streets from the Government Primary School Suo to the main bazaar.
