KARACHI: A youth was murdered in New Karachi Industrial Area on Wednesday morning.

Police said that Ishaq Khaliq, 22, was stabbed to death near Sara Textile in Block-C-1 of New Karachi.

The police attributed personal enmity to the incident.

The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Arms seized

Police have claimed to have arrested an arms smuggler and seized a huge quantity of weapons from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, the police detained a suspect named Adil when he was travelling in a rickshaw near Paracha Pull in Shershah, said Baldia SP Mughees Ahmed Hashmi.

Speaking at a press conference at his office late on Tuesday night, the officer said that one hand grenade, 21 pistols, eight Kalashnikovs/semi-automatic rifles, 2,700 rounds of small and heavy weapons were recovered from his possession.

The suspect used to bring arms from Peshawar to Karachi through passenger buses.

He had also brought heavy weapons to the metropolis and sold them here.

“These arms and ammunition were being used to spread terror, carry out street crimes and for other heinous purposes,” said the officer.

SP Hashmi said that hailing from Sanghar, the suspect had been involved in smuggling of arms from Peshawar to Karachi for the past one year and he had earlier sold three supplies of arms and ammunition.

Responding to a question, the officer added that incidents of street crimes had increased in Ramazan particularly in SITE area due to which the police had changed their strategy to control the increasing number of robberies.

He said checking at crime-infested localities and surrounding factories had been increased while more police force had also been deployed.
