PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency arrested two dealers for running illegal money exchange during a raid in Swat on Friday.

FIA officials said that the agency’s commercial banking circle received information from local sources that two dealers, Idrees Khan and Anwar Shah, were also running illegal money exchange of Hundi-Hawala. The officials said that the two dealers were arrested during a raid.

“We carried out a raid and arrested both the accused persons. The agency recovered Rs12.63 million from their possession. An amount of Rs5 million was recovered from Idrees and Rs7.63 million from Anwar,” an FIA official said.

The official said that both the accused persons were booked under the relevant sections of the law.

Meanwhile, FIA carried out a raid on Ashraf Road in the provincial capital on Thursday and arrested a dealer, Arif Khan for being involved in Hundi-Hawala business. Officials said that Rs7 million were recovered from his possession besides receipts used for Hundi-Hawala.

The man was booked under the relevant sections of the law.

On Wednesday, FIA officials had carried out a raid in Waris Market of the provincial capital and arrested Noorullah and Mohammad Shahab.

FIA officials said that national and international currency, including Saudi Riyal worth 104,000 and Rs9.9 million, was recovered from them.
