IMPROVING ACCESSIBILITY: I wanted to pass on a suggestion to the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), but its email as well as feedback and complaint forms are not functional at all. It should explore the possibility of integrating bus routes and timetables into Google Maps, as many other cities have done already. This will greatly increase accessibility and adoption, which will take cars off the roads. And, yes, it will help if the authority may first have its email functional.

GAS WOES: Interrupted supply of natural gas in many areas of Karachi has increased the problems being faced by the residents, making it hard to keep pace with the Ramazan schedule. There are localities that are undergoing a complete supply blackout. The authorities concerned should have some respect for the holy month.

SAFETY FIRST: A World Health Organisation (WHO) report on road safety has brought forth compelling evidence that helmets save lives. However, it is rather disturbing to know that only 31 per cent motorcycle riders in Pakistan wear a helmet, risking their lives every day. Society should promote the helmet-wearing habit through awareness campaigns.

HAPLESS RESIDENTS: The G-9/2 sector in Islamabad is facing a lot of civic problems, but the worst of them all is the menace of blocked manholes. The area is owned by the government and is inhabited by its low-scale employees. The authorities should take due steps.

KARACHI ROADS: The condition of roads across Karachi is pathetic, reflective of the apathetic attitude of the city administration that seems to have no interest in doing anything about it. Karachi, the financial and industrial hub of the country, deserves better.
