LAHORE: The new Constitution would be fully launched only after Parliament was complete following the election of the Senate by the Provincial Legislatures on the basis of proportionate representation. This was stated by the Central Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Hafeez Pirzada while talking to newsmen at the Lahore railway station … this afternoon [April 15]. He said work on the making of rules for the election of the Senate had already started. In fact, the Government was not losing a single minute in making preparations for full enforcement of the new Constitution… .

… Mr. Pirzada said political parties would have to get ready for the elections. He said he was not talking of his own party as the People’s Party had come out organised more than ever with the passage of the Constitution in the National Assembly. He said the Parliamentary Boards of various political parties might give tickets for elections to the Senate and then there might be appeals etc. against the Board decisions, that all would take time.

Asked whether the Senate elections rules would be ready by May next, he said he could not give the exact date. But it was a matter of law and could not be hurried with. — News agencies
