KOHAT: A free flour dealer was fined Rs1 million and jailed for one month for selling the commodity to people at a distribution point on Monday.

Mohammad Riaz police station SHO Islamuddin told Dawn that the accused, Saqib, was arrested and presented before assistant commissioner Usman Ashraf, who ordered registration of a case against him. The assistant commissioner also imposed Rs1 million fine on him, and sent him to prison for one month.

BUFFALOES KILLED: Buffaloes valuing Rs2.5 million were killed when a truck carrying them met an accident near the Togh Bala old toll plaza on Sunday night.

The vehicle was carrying 40 cattle to Peshawar from Dera Ismail Khan, a rescue official said, adding eight of them were killed and nine were slaughtered on the spot as they suffered critical injuries to their necks and legs.

Some of the buffaloes were milk-giving priced at Rs400,000 each.

Two persons traveling in the truck were also injured.

The police said the accident occurred when brakes of the vehicle failed.

SEALED: Officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Monday sealed a chicken shop for selling rotten chicken livers.

The operation was carried out on the directives of deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah. The authority’s deputy director Asad Qasim led the operation.

A statement issued here said the food authority’s team also seized dead chicken from other shops and fined the shopkeepers.
