KARACHI: The owner of a medical store was shot dead by armed robbers over resistance in Korangi, police said on Tuesday.

They added that Yasir Bashir, 33, was killed by the armed men when he resisted their bid to rob him late on Monday night in Sector-32-A.

An area police officer, Jamil Lodhi, said the victim was sitting at his medical store in Zia Colony when the armed pillion riders arrived there to commit the crime. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled without any loot.

Suffering critical bullet injuries, he was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.

Meanwhile, 30-year-old Yasir Ahmed was shot at and wounded by muggers over resistance in the Sachal area early on Tuesday morning.

Area SHO Raja Tanveer said that the victim claimed that he was riding a motorbike when the robbery suspects indicated him to stop near Mehran Bungalows. As he tried to speed away, they opened fire on him, resulting in bullet injuries to his leg. He was shifted to the nearby Memon Medical Institute Hospital.

The SHO said police had doubts about his claim as the bullet had hit him from the front side.

Suspects clad in police uniform loot Turkish citizen

A Turkish citizen was deprived of Rs1.1 million, 2,200 Turkish liras and other valuables by ‘fake’ policemen in the busy Saddar area on Abdullah Haroon Road near Kakar Hotel on Tuesday on the pretext of checking, said SSP-South Syed Asad Raza.

The foreigner, Mr Hasan, is a mechanical manager at D-Baloch company. The incident occurred when he was going to a money exchange facility after parking his car, added the officer.

He said the suspects wore police uniform when they committed the crime. He said that for quite some time, a gang of criminals had been active in Saddar and other parts of the city who presented themselves as policemen or intelligence personnel and looted citizens.

The Preedy police have registered an FIR.
