POINT OF CLARIFICATION: This is with reference to the article ‘A malleable charter (April 15). There was an error in arithmetic, which seems to be in continuation of my school years where barely passing marks were all I could secure even after much toil. In the sentence citing the number of titular amendments made to the 1973 Constitution in 50 years, i.e, 26 amendments, the rate should have been given as “one amendment about every two years”, instead of “only about two per year”. There may well have been other errors, too. Finders will receive the writer’s profound thanks.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT: Compared to the urban community in Pakistan, people in the rural areas are much worse off even though they also deserve to benefit from multi-layered development initiatives by federal and provincial governments. Rural upgradation in Pakistan needs to be done in terms of technical and vocational skills, including both soft and hard skills that may work towards employment generation in such areas. It should never be forgotten that Pakistan’s sustainability lies in the hands of its youth and it needs imme- diate attention of the government.

STRAY ANIMALS: Stray animals roam the city streets, causing nuisance to those passing by. Cows and bulls fight among themselves, and sometimes hit the passing vehicles and cause accidents. They sit in the middle of the road and that leads to traffic jams. Recently, a man was killed on the road due to this very reason. Such incidents have become common, but unfortunately no action has yet been taken to pre-empt them. The same is the case with stray dogs. The nuisance caused by them is potentially fatal owing to the shortage related to the rabbies vaccine in the country. The authorities concerned should ban stray animals on city roads.
