ISLAMABAD: Terming a bill that bestowed more powers on the NAB chairman ‘a sub judice matter’, President Dr Arif Alvi on Sunday returned the document unsigned to parliament.

The president, who has been accused of being partisan by the opposition, returned the bill for reconsideration.

He sent back the bill, titled National Accountability Ordinance (Amendment) Bill-2023, in terms of clause (1) (b) of the Article 75 of the Constitution, according to an official statement of the president secretariat’s press wing. He said the aspect of the legislation was neither referred to in the bill nor in the prime minister’s advice.

The prime minister had earlier sent his advice, seeking assent of the president over the bill.
