NUMBER PLATE: It is pathetic to see the slack and snail-paced process that marks life at most government departments. I purchased a vehicle for my daughter in February 2021 and got it registered with the Department of Excise and Taxation on Feb 4, 2021. The registration number (BSY-542) was allotted without a hassle, but the wait for the relevant number plate has not ended yet. It has been more than two years now. The department concerned should look into the matter and issue the number plate without any further delay.

STORAGE FOR FARMERS: It is unfortunate that our farmers cannot store their agricultural products after harvesting, leading to significant wastage and loss. This puts the farmers at a disadvantage in the market where they are forced to sell their products at lower prices. The farmers need access to better storage facilities and equipment to improve their livelihoods and preserve their produce’s quality for longer periods. It is, therefore, imperative for the government and other stakeholders to work towards providing adequate storage facilities to the farmers, offering subsidies to enable them to purchase storage equipment. The private sector should also be encouraged to invest in the infrastructure for storage in rural areas. By providing our farmers with access to better storage facilities, we can improve productivity of our agriculture sector.

CARE FOR ANIMALS: The recent death of an elephant has once again highlighted the conditions prevailing at the zoo managed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The relevant authorities should provide better environment to all the animals that are part of the zoo. They are completely dependent on the administration. If the administration fails to do its job, there is every reason for the higher authorities to bring the curtain down on the zoo.
