PRICE HIKE

Published May 11, 2023

PRICE HIKE: The prices of almost all items of daily use are increasing on a daily basis. A razor blade that used to cost Rs100 per piece in the local market now costs Rs290. The prices of all other essential and edible items, such as bread, eggs and tomatoes, are rising at a similar pace. The hike has destroyed the buying power of most people. Apparently, no government authority is active in this regard. I do not know where it will all end.

FAKE ORGANISATIONS: A private recruitment service recently advertised various jobs on social media platforms. Many people applied for it and paid thousands of rupees as challan fee. But over time, people soon realised it was all a scam. An organisation under the name concerned has a website and bank accounts, but they are not processing the applications beyond the challans. The authorities concerned should look into this and all such matters to save the people from getting scammed.

CIVIC OBLIGATION: Every morning while going to the Quaid-i-Azam Library in Bagh-i-Jinnah, Lahore, the environment around me gives a surreal feel of nature, thanks to those who keep the garden neat and clean. However, the same facility turns into a messy place in the evening with heaps of litter lying all around. The least we can do is to throw our disposables in the nearest trash bins installed there.

CONFUSING TIMES: I wonder if the days ahead will bring any political stability in the country. In this seriously polarised scenario, a couple of famed television anchors talked about an alleged interview with the former army chief about a very sensitive security issue. This has made the situation even more confusing for the masses. The timing of such ‘disclosures’ was dicey.
