The Lahore High Court has suspended the station house officer (SHO) who arrested Imran Riaz Khan and also issued a contempt of court notice against him while hearing a plea seeking the anchorperson’s recovery.

Observing that the Sialkot Cantt police station SHO had arrested Khan without receiving his detention orders from the Sialkot deputy commissioner (DC), LHC Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti issued the above orders and sought a response from the Sialkot DC by 1pm today.

During the hearing, Justice Bhatti expressed his displeasure at the anchorperson’s arrest from Sialkot airport, asking the SHO how Khan was a threat to national security when he was travelling abroad.

“Why did the police take an unlawful action? We might as well then shut down the law and make all actions of the police the law,” he remarked.
