The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued an order for the release of senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was detained by capital police last week.

Several PTI leaders, including Qureshi, had been arrested for “inciting violent protests” following party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9.

PTI leader’s bail plea was presented before Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb today. The court inquired about any registered case against Qureshi, to which the state counsel responded that he would need to look into it.

The judge, determined not to “go out of the box”, issued the order for the release of the PTI leader shortly after the completion of arguments from both sides. Furthermore, the judge declared the 3 MPO order (power to arrest and detain suspected persons), under which the former minister was arrested, null and void.
