ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has asked the global community to strengthen medicine supply chains.
The suggestion was made by Director General Health Dr Baseer Achakzai at the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
“Pakistan is enhancing regulatory agility in order to accelerate and facilitate medical product approvals and increase predictability for manufacturers,” Dr Achakzai said as he described Pakistan’s consistency towards building supply chain resilience, assuring quality products and protecting patients from substandard medicines.
He also mentioned that the Covid-19 pandemic was an eye-opener for medicine regulatory authorities.
The event was organised by the USP and moderated by Dr Ron Piervincenzi, the USP chief executive officer. Other notable speakers were from the Drug Regulatory Authority of South Africa, WHO and Unitaid, a global health innovation programme.
