PAINFUL JOURNEY: I travelled to Gaji Khuhawar in Mehar tehsil on a motorcycle a few days ago and was shocked by the condition of the road, which had nothing but potholes all the way through. It took me two hours to reach my destination when the routine time between Larkana and Gaji Khuhawar is not more than 45 minutes. The apathy of the local administration and its political patrons was disappointing. No development work has been initiated, and all previous projects have been stalled as well. The provincial government should take due action in this regard.

UNNECESSARY CHOICE: The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has a discriminatory attitude towards differently-abled persons. For instance, 1,500 vacancies of lecturers were advertised for the Sindh College Education Department a while ago. Differently-abled persons have the right to apply for both open merit and quota seats reserved for them. However, the SPSC issued two separate admission slips, denying them the chance to appear against both sets of allocation, and forcing them to make a tough choice which they did not have to make under the rules. Candidates from minority communities were allowed to apply under two categories, but the differently-abled ones were denied. If this is not unfair, what is?

TOMB MISMANAGEMENT: I recently visited the tomb of Shah Rukne Alam in Multan with a friend, and was seriously disappointed to see the mismanagement prevalent at the historical monument. There was no proper arrangement for the entrance and exit of people. Everyone was using a single gate for either purpose. The staff members were openly collecting money in the name of donations. The management had also placed boxes, encouraging the visitors to donate whatever they could. In these conditions, how can one pray in peace? The department concerned should sort out such problems.
