KARACHI: A suspected mugger was shot dead and another arrested in wounded condition in an alleged encounter on Nishtar Road on Saturday morning.

Eidgah SHO Shaoor Bangash said a police patrol indicated two men riding a motorbike to stop near Jubilee Market, but they resorted to firing and tried to escape.

The police chased them and in an ensuing encounter both the suspects were arrested in wounded condition near the KMC Workshop area. They were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where Zubair, 25, died. His accomplice, Wajid Ali Jan, 35, was admitted for treatment.

The SHO claimed that they had past criminal record as there were booked in several criminal cases.

Youth shot dead

A young man was shot dead and another injured within the remit of the Al-Falah police station on Saturday afternoon, police and rescue services said.

They said that unknown assailants on a motorbike emerged near Khyber Hotel in Madina Market, fried at the two persons and rode away. The injured persons were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Rifatullah, 24, died during treatment, while Javed Khan, 30, was admitted for treatment.

The police attributed some personal enmity behind the incident.
