LARKANA, Jan 25: The Larkana district council on Wednesday unanimously rejected the new formula for distribution of national resources and urged President General Pervez Musharraf to revise it. Talat Khursheed Khatyan representing Sindh’s stand termed the NFC unjust.

She appealed to the president to reconsider the award which had disappointed Sindh.

Fayyaz Bhutto said Sindh contributed 70 per cent revenue to the federal government but it had received only a small sum in return.

Distribution of the award on population basis was not acceptable to the province, he declared.

Nizakat Ali said the distribution was another blow to the rights of Sindh after announcement of construction of big dams.

He alleged that Punjab used the revenue generated by Sindh.

After the resolution, members of the Awam Dost Panel boycotted proceedings of the district council.

Deputy general secretary of the Sindh National Front, Abdul Latif Bughio, appealed to the members to participate in the rally of the Sindh Qaumi Ittehad in Larkana on January 28.

Convener, Munawar Ali Abro, who chaired the session on Wednesday, told the members about steps being taken by the district nazim towards various issues.

Badar Abbasi, Mashooque Jatoi, Baboo Sarwar Siyal, Khair Mohammad Shaikh, Bashir Shaikh, Baqar Junejo, Ali Raza Shah Rashdi, Barkat Shaikh and Rehmatullah took part in the proceedings.

They criticized the Sindh Local Government Ordinance.

They said members of the house should be briefed about status of previous schemes and taken into confidence about future plans.

JSSF: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Students’ Federation protested in a unique way on Wednesday against construction of the Kalabagh dam.

Carrying lanterns, party flags, placards and beating drums they marched on roads of the city.

The protesters were led by Amir Soho and Jamil Gaad.

They staged a sit-in outside the district council hall when a session was in progress.

Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said that by beating drums they were trying to tell, what they called, the deaf rulers about unrest in Sindh.

They claimed that Sindhis, Balochis, Pakhtoons and Seraikis had rejected the dam but the rulers wanted to construct it.

Meanwhile, Larkana PML-Q under Qadir Bakhsh Bhatti took out a procession from the Khuhro house in support for President General Pervez Musharraf’s announcement regarding construction of dams.

They demonstrated outside the local press club and hailed the president for not announcing construction of the Kalabagh dam.
