LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday asked the Punjab caretaker government and police to file replies to a petition seeking details of cases registered against PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi issued the directive during the hearing of the petition filed by Gohar Bano Qureshi, a daughter of the PTI leader.

The counsel for the petitioner contended before the court that police had registered several cases against the PTI leadership after the May 9 riots and also arrested Mr Qureshi.

He requested the court to restrain police from arresting the petitioner’s father in any known or undisclosed case registered after May 9. He also urged the court to summon details of the cases registered against Mr Qureshi.

After hearing the arguments, the judge sought replies from the respondents by June 6.

Separately, Justice Farooq Haider of the LHC adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by former federal minister Omar Ayub Khan seeking details of the cases registered against him.

Mr Khan through his counsel had alleged that police had been harassing him at the behest of the government and implicating him in politically-motivated cases.

The judge adjourned the hearing till June 6 as neither the petitioner nor his counsel appeared before the court on Monday.
