A PLAN NOT GOOD ENOUGH: The growing air pollution in Lahore often gets a mention in media reports, but there has been no concrete step taken or planned in this regard so far. Recently, the government launched its National Clean Air Policy which has a lot of words that mean nothing. For instance, it aims at reducing particulate matter (pm) 2.5 by 38 per cent by the year 2030. The deadline has no chance since no financial outlook has been worked out. If mere words could do the trick, we would have been the world champions in many a field by now, and would have been setting newer targets for the world to meet. Every plan needs some consolidated groundwork before getting started. The current plan is just not good or practical enough to bring about a worthy change.

FLYOVER IN A SHAMBLES: Using the KPT flyover is no longer safe for commuters. Recently, I witnessed an accident when a motorist hit an unseen, extremely dangerous bump caused by a cracking of the joint. The poor soul flew into the air and hit one of the side-walls. He was lucky to have hit the wall, or else would have gone flying down the bridge. That bump has become a death trap for commuters. The city administration should immediately start repair work on the flyover and make it safe for the commuters.

FLOUR SHORTAGE: Common people are suffering from a serious shortage of wheat flour, which can be seen in the shape of long queues in front of fair price shops and Utility Stores. There have been scuffles and even deaths during flour distribution drives in the country, but that has done nothing to wake up the decision-makers from their inexplicable slumber. The government should make available what is beyond doubt a basic commodity.
