LOWER DIR: Hundreds of Jamaat-i-Islami workers held a protest rally in Timergara here on Friday condemning the Sindh government and Pakistan Peoples Party leadership for allegedly using ‘undemocratic and unconstitutional’ means during the Karachi mayor election.
The rally was staged on the call of party chief Sirajul Haq. The protesters wearing black armbands marched on the road, chanting slogans against the PPP leadership and Sindh government.
JI district chief Izazul Mulk, general secretary Yaqubur Rehman, JI youth wing district president Ateequr Rehman and others addressed the rally.
The speakers demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to declare the Karachi mayor’s polls null and void as what they said majority votes of JI and its allied PTI were turned into a minority, giving PPP’s Murtaza Wahab the win.
They said the total number of JI and its allied chairmen was 193 compared to the PPP and its allies’ 173 members, but the result was changed due to use of ‘undemocratic’ means.
Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
