MAY 9 INCIDENTS: It would be in the national interest to initiate a transparent inquiry into the infamous incidents of May 9. People involved even on social media platforms should also be investigated for inciting people on that fateful day when violent protests erupted. Reports suggest that there are about 3,000 people who have been identified thus far. They are said to have been part of some large-scale conspiracy. The relevant authorities should take stringent steps to bring to justice those who attacked military installations.

STUDENT POLITICS: Student politics is an element that needs a serious thinking about its pros and cons. Education comes first and all students should focus on their studies before even thinking about any- thing else. Politics demands intellectual maturity, which is not possible till one has completed the academic life and has had some exposure to the real world. Politics is a complex phenomenon that requires social awareness and some sense of history. Let us be responsible citizens before we think of entering the political domain.

TINTED GLASSES: Using tinted windows in vehicles is actually nothing but a symbol of showing one’s disregard for the law. Traffic constables only penalise the common man while turning a blind eye towards luxury cars that continue to move around with tinted glasses and have bodyguards with unlicensed automatic weapons. Everyone should follow the law regardless of their status. The government must bring violators of traffic rules to task.

CLOSING UNITS: Hearing about the possible closure of some phone manufacturing units has alarmed many. With the economy in a spin, manufacturing units have felt overtaxed, and this has perhaps forced them to pull the shutters down. The government really has to revisit the taxation mechanism.
