Usman, Umair take golds in Special Olympics

KARACHI: Pakistan athletes Usman Qamar and Umair Kayani won gold medals in cycling and javelin throw events respectively at the 16th Special Olympic World Games in Berlin on Wednesday.

Usman completed the distance of the 5km road race in seven minutes and 21.59 seconds.

“I had prepared hard for the World Games and I hoped that I would reach the victory stand but winning the gold medal is a dream come true,” Usman said after his victory.

“And I am also grateful to Special Olympics Pakistan who helped me in my training and preparations.”

Meanwhile, Umair won gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event with a throw of 38.81 metres while compatriot Umaima Iftikhar (10.47 meteres) claimed silver in the women’s section.
