OSLO: India has requested a meeting with the Pakistani government in an effort to solve the post-war problems between the two countries, Indian Foreign Minister Sardar Swaran Singh, said here yesterday [June 20]. Addre­ssing a Press conference at the end of a two-day official visit here, Mr Singh said India was seeking a clarification from Pakistan on these issues. The latest letter, he said, was sent some days before he left for the Nordic countries. “There is a possibility of a meeting either in Islamabad or Delhi,” he indicated.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Daggfin Vaarvik briefed his Indian counterpart on his recent talks with the Chinese leaders in Peking and both discussed the Middle East and other international problems. A spokesman of the Pakistan Foreign Office confirmed in Karachi … that India-Pakistan talks may be held shortly in Islamabad to discuss outstanding problems between the two countries. The spokesman said that Pakistan had issued an invitation to India on May 15 to which India had never replied. This invitation had been repeated again some time back. It may be mentioned that Indian Foreign Minister Sardar Swaran Singh had said that India had agreed to such a meeting. — News agencies
