ISLAMABAD: A hundred officials of capital police deployed at different divisions and units were transferred to newly named Dolphin Squad to increase the manpower for patrolling on the street and roads of the capital keeping in view of sharp increase in the crime in the city, police said.
The police said that recently, the Eagle Squad of the capital police comprising over 500 personnel was renamed to Dolphin Squad. The squad’s headquarters is in a separate block located inside the Shalimar police station, they added.
Director General Safe City selected 100 constables from Anti-Riot Units of Logistics and Operations Divisions and the police establishment office transferred them to the Dolphin Squad, they said, adding that soon the headquarters of the squad will also be shifted to police installation at G-8/4.
The squad patrols the street and roads of capital in three shifts each comprising eight hours, they said, adding that in morning and evening shifts 60 teams, each comprising four officials on two motorcycles patrol a given area. In the night shift 25 teams patrolled in the sensitive and crime hit areas, they added.
A mobile app also got installed in the mobiles of the personnel of the squad through which their movements, location and presence on the street will be monitored from Safe City Islamabad, they added.
The squad is working under the supervision of the SSP Operations and headed by a deputy superintendent of police, they said.
The Dolphin Squad will establish on the lines of Turkish Police model, and soon the personnel stationed in the squad will send to Turkiye for a month long training, they said, adding that resources, including modern and sophisticated technology and gadgets along with more motorcycle are also being arranged for the squad to make it more effective.
