RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government on Wednesday asked Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to ensure water supply to the residents of the garrison city without any hurdle and clear all the sewerage system during Eidul Azha.

This was stated by Sajid Zafar Dal, Punjab Secretary Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department, in a meeting held to review the arrangements of water supply and cleaning of sewerage system in the garrison city.

Wasa Managing Director Mohammad Tanveer informed the meeting that the plan had been formulated to provide water to the residents during Eid days without any hurdle.

He said that the leaves of Wasa field staff had been canceled and they would perform their duties as usual during the Eid days under the supervision of their respective deputy directors and assistant directors.

He said that instructions had been given to keep all heavy machinery and staff on alert to deal with any emergency situation during Eid days after the rain forecast by Met Office.

He said that a control room had been activated where staff will be present to redress consumer complaints and the citizens can contact 1334 or their nearest Wasa complaint office to register complaints.

“All tube wells have been made functional for uninterrupted supply of water. Howeverif a tubewell develops a fault, special repair teams have also been formed which will remain on alert round the clock and water supply will be ensured through water tanker,” he said.

He warned strict action against those who throw animal waste in drains specially in Leh Nullah on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.

In this regard, he said the deputy commissioner has already imposed Section 144 in the city.

After the meeting, MD Wasa visited the tube wells and overhead tanks to review the water supply in the city.
