KOHAT: The police on Saturday foiled a bid to smuggle weapons and thousands of cartridges from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by arresting two carriers while travelling in a car on the Indus Highway here.

District police officer Farhan Khan said a team led by DSP Yousuf Khan stopped a car and recovered 18 pistols, a Kalashnikov, and 18,700 cartridges from it.

He said the smugglers identified as Abdul Hameed and Ehsanullah, belonged to Lakki Marwat.

Separately, the Hangu police solved a blind murder of an old man by arresting his brother-in-law and an accomplice on Saturday.

The two were arrested from Bagato area in a raid, police officials said, adding two pistols used in the crime, Rs150,000 cash and gold bangles were recovered from their possession.

DSP Amjid Hussain told reporters the police had got news that a body was lying in a house in Mohallah Sangerh. He said the police reached the scene and shifted the body to KDA Teaching Hospital for postmortem. He said the postmortem confirmed he was murdered. The DSP said the police arrested the culprits, including Sajjad, the brother-in-law of the deceased, and his accomplice, namely, Sharif, who confessed to their crime.

JUSTICE SOUGHT: End Violence against Women and Girls Alliance (EVAWGA), Kohat, a local entity, and Blue Veins NGO have condemned the assault on a 15-year-old girl by his brothers, and demanded severe action against the culprits.

“We extend our full support to the innocent girl and others like her, who have become victims of such brutal violence, and will continue fight for the dignity of women, children and girls,” a statement issued here the other day said, quoting Hassan Bano of EVAWGA and programme manager of Blue Veins, Qamar Naseem. They said the pursuit of justice against such brutality was not optional, but a fundamental human right and state duty.

They called upon the law enforcement agencies and judiciary to leave no stone unturned in pursuing justice for the victim girl.
