SWABI: A village council nazim was shot dead by a teenager here on Sunday, district police officer Najamul Husnain said.

He said Baladar Khan, deputy general secretary of Awami National Party, Swabi tehsil, and Swabi Khas-1 village council nazim, was on way home when he was attacked near Shamsi graveyard by a youngster, who was waiting for him there.

DPO Husnain said the attacker had been identified as Khan Zala, 16, who had been living with the deceased in his hujra. He said the assailant escaped, and the police were making efforts to arrest him.

Separately, two people, including a teenager, were killed and three injured in separate incidents, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said unknown attackers killed Saqib Shah, 30, in Kalu Khan village.

Zahir Shah, father of the deceased, said he was informed by locals that his son’s body was lying in the fields.

SHO Kalu Khan police station Haroon Khan said they shifted the body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Salman, 15, was killed and his uncle, Bahar Ali was injured when their rivals opened fire on them in Dawlat village over a land dispute.

The body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy, and the injured was rushed to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor.

The police registered an FIR against Raham Sher, Bakhat Sher, Mashooq Khan and Atif Khan.

In a separate development, two motorcyclists, identified as Hamid Khan and Anwar Ali, were injured when two bikes collided on Swabi-Mardan Road.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Also, the operation to recover the bodies of two brothers, who drowned in the Indus River, continued for the third straight day on Sunday, but the bodies were still untraced.

SPILLWAYS OPENED: The authorities on Sunday opened the spillways of Tarbela Dam, sources in the dam told Dawn.

They said people living near the downstream Tarbela or those beating the heat were informed that they should stay away from the watercourse.

The sources said water flow in Indus downstream Tarbela was very high and was expected to increase further.
